Study international law multidisciplinary and internationally in a global network

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development

Developed in response to the growing need for graduates of excellence with leadership potential in international law and global security affairs as well as sustainability, this unique two-year Erasmus Mundus Master Degree leverages the complementary expertise, resources and networks of six leading European Universities to continue a uniquely innovative, integrated and multidisciplinary programme in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD).

ILSPSD is designed to train the next generation of lawyers and policy-makers equipped to engage with the political context of international law and the holistic approaches that are needed to achieve security, peace and sustainable development. As such, ILSPSD will spearhead an innovative approach to 21st century legal education that is urgently needed for our increasingly volatile, interconnected and complex global future. The programme is taught over 24 months (120 ECTS) and includes at least three mandatory mobility periods.

All students will spend the first semester in Lüneburg and the second semester in Barcelona, where focus will be on, respectively, international law and international relations of security, peace and sustainable development. In the third semester, students will split into smaller groups to pursue their preferred Study Tracks: International Law and Security (Glasgow), International Law and Human Rights (Tartu), Security and Conflict (Brussels) and Globalization, Law and Security (Lisbon). A research dissertation will be completed in the fourth term along with an optional work placement.

At the same time, two identical degree programmes with different degrees (LL.M. and M.A.) are being established. Students will also have a choice of several prestigious summer schools. Students can use this degree as a springboard to a future career in the fields of law, policy and international relations, having been equipped with unique multidisciplinary and transferable skills, as well as professional experience.
